There is an array of therapies and rehabilitation options available in today's health-care market. From traditional physical therapists to holistic healers, countless practitioners want your business.

If you suffer from an injury or painful chronic condition, you may not know where to turn or know which therapies are best suited to your particular condition.

The Banta Center and Orthopedic Therapy Specialists can help you.

Join us at 12:15 p.m. Thursday as Arlan Arburo, a physical therapist, presents an informative program on physical therapy options. Questions are welcome.

For even more immediate help, stop by Banta's 'Ask the Therapist' program this afternoon. At 12:15 p.m., join Subah Malik, a rehabilitation therapist from Life Care Center of Valparaiso, for a casual question-and-answer session. Receive free, friendly health advice during this regular monthly program.

Also, get a head start on good health by taking advantage of some special screenings taking place next week. The Porter hospital Wellness Van will visit Banta from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, to check blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

All it takes is a finger prick and about 10 minutes to get results. For an accurate reading, it is recommended that you fast for 10 hours prior to testing. Call ahead to schedule an appointment with Porter hospital.

The number is 531-7285.

Of course, good health isn't all about physical therapy and cholesterol checks. Relaxation, mental stimulation and fun are also important.

With the approach of fall, cooler weather may curtail our outdoor activities, and fewer hours of sunlight may drain our energy.

That's why planning an autumn trip with Getaway Tours and Banta makes especially good sense, and even better times.

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, Banta and Getaway Tours will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich., where we'll tour the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park.

The gardens contain the largest tropical conservatory in Michigan, as well as waterfalls, streams, winding pathways, a Victorian garden and more.

Most exciting is the chance to see the gardens' three-story bronze replica of Leonardo da Vinci's equestrian sculpture, Il Cavallo. This statue is the only copy of da Vinci's horse outside of Italy.

The cost of $71 includes a guided walking tour and a tram tour of this magnificent 70-acre facility, as well as a gourmet lunch at Duba's.

Take care of your health, but remember, as Oscar Wilde said, 'Life is too important to be taken seriously.'
