Software to help manage HEDIS reports.(Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set) - Health & Medicine Week

2003 APR 28 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- ViPS, Inc., a provider of healthcare business intelligence solutions, announced that it has entered into a 5-year licensing agreement with Priority Health for ViPS' quality improvement reporting software, MedMeasures Suite.

As part of the partnership with ViPS, Priority Health has contracted ViPS to not only manage the operating system but also to utilize ViPS' extensive experience in data management.

Priority Health, a Grand Rapids-based managed care company serving more than 388,000 members in Michigan, recently selected ViPS' MedMeasures to help it manage an increasing demand to generate Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) reports. The choice was based on 3 key advantages of MedMeasures: a more open product, better documentation capabilities and a significant price advantage compared to its nearest rival. Priority Health has licensed the full MedMeasures Suite, including MedMeasures, MedCapture and MedMeasures Plus, for 5 years.

Priority Health limited its consideration to products that had been certified by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), which administers the HEDIS reporting program. HEDIS measures are designed to help purchasers and consumers compare health plans reliably and accurately.

'NCQA annually certifies software products designed for HEDIS compliance after verifying that these products can produce the measures and reports required by HEDIS,' says Jenny Morgan, president and chief executive officer at ViPS. 'MedMeasures from ViPS has earned this certification every year since the program was introduced.'

After narrowing its vendors to two finalists, Priority Health selected ViPS. 'The documentation capabilities of ViPS and the openness of their product, which allowed us to look at the underlying logic, along with price, were the major factors that led to this selection,' said Jim Slubowski, vice president/Information Services at Priority Health.

Slubowski added that ViPS soon vaulted into the lead during the final round of vendor consideration. 'We just felt ViPS had better capabilities and a better price value compared to the competitors,' he said.
